At the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust we are acutely aware that the transition to Newly Qualified Paramedic is a significant time in a person’s career. The transition to registered clinician is an exciting time but equally emotionally turbulent, often fraught with anxiety.

Guided by the Health Care Professional Preceptorship Principles and national best practice literature we have redesigned our Newly Qualified Paramedic’s Preceptorship programme, focused on developing confidence as an autonomous and accountable professional.

We have created a framework for preceptorship that can be applied to all Newly Qualified Paramedics new to the organisation. This framework sets out how the Health Care Professions Council (HcPC) principles of preceptorship are to be applied to provide a structured package of support for all Newly Qualified Paramedics in their first six months of employed registered practice.

For more information - please visit - www.swastcpd.co.uk/preceptorship/

You will earn an annual salary as a Newly Qualified Paramedic of £28,407 plus unsocial enhancements.

You will be provided with driving support and development to enable you to obtain a UK driving license and qualify to drive category C1 vehicles in the UK.

You will be supported through the registration process to become a UK Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registered Paramedic.

Once you have successfully completed your driving qualification and obtained HCPC registration (which takes approximately three months), you will then work as a Newly Qualified Paramedic.

As a Newly Qualified Paramedic the first six months of your employment will be your preceptorship, during which you will be supported by an experienced Paramedic to

develop your confidence as an independent professional, and your manager will work with you to ensure your abilities, skills, attendance, behaviour, and attitude meet

required standards. You will receive regular reviews over 24 months as part of an ongoing supportive environment that ensures you have the confidence to practice autonomously whilst building on your strengths and identifying any areas that require development.

To apply, you must have successfully completed all the educational requirements of your Bachelor of Health Science qualification.

Successful candidates will be required to undertake employment checks including Occupational Health and a Disclosure and Baring Service Check. All offers of

employment will be subject to successful Visa sponsorship (if required) and HCPC registration

After your initial 24 months you will become a fully qualified Paramedic earning a salary of £35,392 plus unsocial hours enhancement of approx. £36,453.76 (3%) -

£44,240(25%).
