I'm Jordan, 27, based in the Operations Centre in Exeter. As an ex-miltary individual, I'm passionate about supporting the transition of serving personnel into civilian life and advocating for veterans, reservists and their families.
Jordan, 27
Nickname: Roe
I joined the British Army at 16 years of age and spent the best part of 8 years doing a bit of the following:
- Operational Tours (Afghanistan)
- Global Exercises (Belize, Kenya, Canada,Georgia, and so on)
- Sniper Training
- International Training Teams
- Op Rescript (Assisting the NHS during the pandemic)
and more
When I left military service, I began my journey into pre-hospital medicine by working as a COVID swabber for large key worker organisations as well as a First Responder. This quickly escalated over the year into building my own medical training facility, being approved by both Qualsafe and Qualification Network UK. This training facility’s primary function was to help service personnel both serving and discharged, attain recognised qualifications that would help them transition into new careers outside of the Armed Forces. Often, we offered free courses to individuals worth up to £400 per person, as well as heavily discounted courses.
I joined SWASFT in the Summer of 2023, which must be the best decision I have made since leaving the Armed Forces. Like many, when I made the transition into civvy street I felt lost without the sense of belonging. I began to regret all the choices I had made; I lost the family I grew up with whilst serving and all I wanted to do was go back, which was my contingency if the trust didn’t work for me. However, when I rocked up to EDOC (East DevonO perations Centre), I was surprised at how many ex-military personnel worked there, and how similar the atmosphere is to being in a battalion. This allowed me to settle and begin working towards the goals I had set.
I took this role as the Chair of the Armed Forces &Veteran Network to make progress towards the recognition of ex-military personnel and their unique set of skills and attributes that perfectly align with the values of the trust. You are a vital asset to any organisation you join; however, you are irreplaceable in pre-hospital care. You will feel that sense of belonging in the Ambulance Services, you will regain your routine, your momentum and we will give you a career pathway that is too good to pass upon. Your transferrable skills should not, and will not, be misunderstood here and we will do our best to support you from application to wherever you may end up.
